In 1981, on this day Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, who'd already shocked the wrestling world once by beating Harley Race for the NWA world heavyweight title five days earlier, proceeded to shock it a second time by defeating the veteran grappler in a rematch to retain the belt. After the match a frustrated Race could be heard shouting, "What the hell does it take to beat this kid?!"
