Here's something to ponder: how would Plan Z have changed U-boat allocation? After all, one fleet carrier would have taken the resources of perhaps 20 U-boats.

Eric Lipps commented on 2012-07-12 13:59:13 ~ I agree: this is what a Nazi carrier would most likely have been used for, certainly at that point in time. Even in World War I, the Germans recognized the vulnerability of Britain, as an island nation, to being starved into submission by having its sea trade blocked; that was the chief point of its submarine blockade in that war. It failed then primarily because the U.S. became involved--which suggests that Germany would have to be careful not to create a Lusitania-type incident with its carrier.
