In 2005, Dave Lange researches the company that Jeanna Best found out the day before, Myrmidon. Hours of searching yields him nothing; the company is very good at hiding its tracks. Just when he is about to give up hope, a small item in a Lexis-Nexis search tells him that representatives of the company met with President Bush in 2002; he finds other references to them in meetings with powerful leaders of other nations, as well. He even succeeds in finding a picture of the company's president, one J. Burton Howell.


March 19
In 2005, the Save Earthers who have captured Dr. R.D. Reilly sneak him into a friendly hospital and x-ray his hands. When the rays hit him, though, the machine goes haywire, and almost explodes before they can shut it down. Reilly laughs at the Save Earthers and tells them, 'You think your primitive little voodoo machines can work on one of us?'


March 27
In 2005, Dave and Jeanne Lange, with the help of a couple of Save Earth hackers, take over the transmission of the National College Basketball Championships, and make a 2-minute statement about the Claws, while flashing the Save Earth web site on the screen. Almost as soon as they lose control of the broadcast, their web site is hit with hundreds of thousands of visitors; the message is being spread.


April 12
In 2005, the success of the Save Earth missions to destroy the centers where the Claws transform themselves into human appearance makes it impossible for the alien race to maintain its presence on earth. There is a vast withdrawal, and many prominent people disappear overnight. U.S. Representative Carl Worthington calls a press conference and announces, 'The earth is now safe from alien influence.'


April 10
In 2005, billionaire H. Ross Perot, a secret member of the Save Earth movement, provides four teams with jets to let them reach the four sectors that handle Claw transformation into human appearance. Dave and Jeanne Lange are assigned to the nearest one, in the jungles of Venezuela, and begin their trek through the jungle to reach it shortly after nightfall.


January 31
In 2005, the Save Earth camp site where Jeanna Best and Dave Lange are being kept is raided by Texas Rangers, who start shooting anyone who tries to flee. In spite of this, Lange and Best make a break for it, along with several others. Losing their pursuit in the hills, they try to double back and see what is happening to the camp. When they find a hill where they can observe the campsite unseen, they see the supposed 'Rangers' executing the Save Earthers that have been captured.


January 30
In 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange are taken to a Save Earth camp site in the Texas Hill Country, where they are deprogrammed from the brainwashing that they received when they heard the lecture from J. Burton Howell. The SE deprogrammers tell them that the information they have gained will help the movement immeasurably.


January 29
In 2005, Jeanna Best finds herself unusually attracted to her boss, Jack Armstrong. She hangs on his every word at work, and finds herself gazing longingly at him whenever he passes by. Which is unusual, as she had never had such feelings for him before. She tries to shake herself out of it, but can't. After work, she calls Dave Lange, who tells her that he has been having similar feelings towards several people. They think those people must be 'claws,' and this must be the result of the speech they heard from J. Burton Howell.


January 28
In 2005, Steve Axelrod of the Save Earth group is unable to decipher the J. Burton Howell speech that Jeanna Best and Dave Lange recorded. 'My guess is, he was transmitting something during these parts of the speech,' he tells the pair. 'Did either of you feel anything weird during the speech?' They say they didn't but promise to watch themselves over the next few days.


January 27
In 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange travel to Houston to see J. Burton Howell, head of the mysterious company Myrmidon, whom they have been tracking for a couple of days. Howell is giving a lecture at Rice University, and they record it. When they play it back afterwards, though, there are sections of the speech that only give off static.


January 25

In 2005, Jeanna Best goes in to work for Austin lawyer Jack Armstrong and gets called into his office. Armstrong asks her about her illness on the previous Saturday, and she replies that it was a little 24-hour bug. She notes that he does not use the last two fingers on either hand at all, and barely contains her shudders of fear; she also notes the defense contract lying on his desk for a company called Myrmidon.


January 23
In 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange meet at a Save Earth safe house with a few of the SE people. 'What are we supposed to do?' Lange wants to know. "Fight", he is told. Best and Lange agree to join Save Earth and Best gives the SE group some vital information on her employer. They tell her that they will need her to keep her job there as long as she can - the intel she provides is vital to the cause.


January 22
In 2005, Jeanna Best, coming in to work a Saturday at the law firm she is employed at in Austin, Texas, notices her boss, Jack Armstrong, using the 'claw'. Suddenly frightened, she tells him that she has taken ill and goes to her friend Dave Lange's apartment, where it takes a few drinks to calm her nerves. The two of them are now utterly convinced that they have stumbled onto something real - and dangerous.


January 21
In 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange, after a couple of days of observing people's use of their hands, get together at his apartment and compare notes. They have both become decidedly paranoid, because they have actually witnessed the 'claw-like' behavior that they had been warned about in the Save Earth meeting. Best plaintively asks, 'What's going on?'


January 19
In 2005, the Save Earth crowd begins bombarding Jeanna Best and Dave Lange with information about the 'claws', telling the pair how they have been positioning themselves to take over from the humans for some time. They tell Best and Lange how to watch for the claws - see how many fingers they use to perform simple tasks. If they only use 3, then they are aliens. Best and Lange leave this meeting feeling ashamed of themselves for attending, but curious to see if what the kooks said will turn out to be true.


January 18
In 2005, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange begin noticing the three-fingered 'claw' gesture on a lot of news shows; they begin to think they've stumbled onto a weird cult. That day, they are both visited by someone from saveearth.net who asks them to come to another meeting. Reluctantly, they both agree. When they see each other at the meeting, they start wondering what they've gotten themselves into.


January 16
In 2005, Jeanna Best gets a phone call from a woman who asks how many fingers she has. Confused, Best hangs up on the woman. Checking her email later that day, she has a reply from OriginalHuman@saveearth.net also asking how many fingers she has. When she talks to her friend Dave Lange about it, he tells her to reply back five and see what happens. Two hours after Best does so, there is a knock at her door.


April 7
In 2005, the Save Earth leadership is beginning to think that the kidnapping of Ahn Wun was a mistake; the Claw scientist has given them no aid whatsoever. Dave Lange then goes to her and uses a last ruse - he tells her that unless she cooperates, her child will be tortured by the movement. Her anguished cry of 'You have my son?' lets him know that he has chosen the right tactic.


April 8
In 2005, with captive Claw scientist Ahn Wun cooperating because she fears the Save Earthers will torture her son if she doesn't, the SE learns that four main sectors handle all of the Claw transformation into human appearance; she also provides them with a rough idea of the security at these installations. None are in the U.S., and Representative Worthington's ability to tap into government funds for travel is now in question, so they call on another resource.


April 11
In 2005, Dave and Jeanne Lange, along with four other Save Earthers, infiltrate a Claw facility in Venezuela. They plant explosives throughout the facility without being caught, but just as the team is preparing to leave, a guard apprehends one of the team members. 'Go,' He shouts at them through their walkie-talkies ' 'blow this place!' As soon as the rest of the team can evacuate, they set off the explosives, destroying the Claw building.


April 12

In 2005, in the wake of the Claw withdrawal, and the absence of many key figures afterwards, such as the Vice-President, America chooses to hold a special election. U.S. Representative Carl Worthington calls it the 'first free election in decades' in America.


April 14
In 2005, Dave and Jeanne Lange settle down in Washington, D.C. The newly-appointed aids to Representative Carl Worthington, who will soon be President Worthington, find that, in spite of the hectic pace of post-Claw Washington, they are more relaxed than at any time in the last few months. 'I don't even have to watch the TV for signals, anymore,' Dave tells Jeanne.


April 6
In 2005, Ahn Wun, the captive Claw scientist that the Save Earthers are going to trade for humanity's freedom, haughtily tells her captors, 'I am not important enough to abandon a planet for, you idiots. Force us to choose, and we will simply come out into the open to rule your pathetic little earth.'


January 17
In 2005, after a long conversation with the woman who knocked at her door, Jeanna Best and Dave Lange agree to follow her down to a south Austin warehouse. Here, they meet a few other people, including Representative Carl Worthington. The meeting isn't led by him, however - a small woman gets up to speak to everyone and tells them that they are there because they are the real humans, and the world is being invaded by three-fingered aliens. Best and Lange leave the meeting as soon as they can.


January 12
In 2005, Austin, Texas resident Jeanna Best and her friend Dave Lange notice something odd about a televised interview with their U.S. Representative, Carl Worthington. Whenever he speaks with commentator Jack Kilbride, he makes a subtle clawing gesture with his thumb, index and middle finger. He only makes the gesture when speaking towards Kilbride, and not the other pundits on the show. Curious, they begin tracking other appearances of Worthington to see if he makes this gesture in other situations.


January 14
In 2005, Jeanna Best finds a strange site on the Internet that mentions the clawing gestures of U.S. Representative Carl Worthington, but the site is almost entirely gibberish. When she shows the site to her friend Dave Lange, he finds a hidden link that asks for a password when he clicks on it. He does not guess the password after the three tries that system gives him, but then a message comes up asking him to email someone at the address of OriginalHuman@saveearth.net. He sends an email from Jeanna's computer, asking for information about the site.
