'Mlosh' by Alternate Historian Robbie Taylor
Alternate Historian Alternate Historian Robbie Taylor says, in 1720, an alien race known as the Mlosh landed on earth and made their home among humanity. The warping effect that their presence has had on earth has made some people love them - and others hate them. Warp is the story of a band of anti-Mlosh terrorists and the authorities who attempt to hunt them down. Please note Rob's novel 'Warp' can be downloaded from Lulu. (Editors note - this is a partial archive, Rob's work is still to be copied over to the new site). If you're interested in viewing samples of my other work why not visit Ratmanifesto site.

January 19

In 1840, Captain Charles Wilkes claims a third of Pluto for the North American Confederation. Although considered a bad piece of property to own at first, Pluto's position at the outer reaches of the solar system becomes important when the Congress of Nations decides to build its defensive base there, and the N.A.C.'s importance in system affairs is increased.

February 1
In 1904, Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk of earth makes contact with a secret organization of aliens on the Mlosh homeworld; they have kept records of the past in which his ancestors were forced to flee. After seeing them, the Mlosh Ambassador orders a quiet, but quick, withdrawal from the Mlosh home star system.

February 2
In 1904, a surreptitious probe is sent from the Congress of Nations embassy ship back to earth. In it, Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk informs the C.N. that the current inhabitants of the Mlosh homeworld, while sprung from the same genes as the Mlosh, are a dangerous breeding experiment that went awry, causing the original Mlosh colonists to flee to earth. Li'Kanto'Mk is afraid that now that they have discovered their progenitors on another planet, that they will follow the Mlosh there.

February 3
In 1904, the Congress of Nations embassy ship makes its hasty departure from the Mlosh homeworld, accelerating as rapidly as it can towards home. While still in the system, they encounter the fleet of Q'B'Ton'ra, the ruler of the people who have supplanted the Mlosh on their world, and are captured.

February 4
In 1904, Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk of the Congress of Nations is brought before Q'B'Ton'ra, the ruler of the Mlosh homeworld. The officers of his ship stand with him, and Q'B'Ton'ra has a special interest in the humans. 'They will make excellent slaves,' he says, examining them. 'Strong, unlike our people. Stupid, like yours.' The ship's crew is thrown into a holding cell; on the way there, they see a massive fleet being prepared.

February 5
In 1904, Q'B'Ton'ra's fleet is launched against earth; although Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk assures the alien leader that the Mlosh of earth have no memories of the homeworld, Q'B'Ton'ra feels that they would be compelled to avenge their ancestors. 'I will deal with them as I dealt with the original Mlosh - I will crush and kill them all.'

February 7
In 1904, Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk is executed by Q'B'Ton'ra, ruler of the Mlosh homeworld. Q'B'Ton'ra's fleet is ordered to locate and destroy the embassy ship that is seeking to warn earth of the impending attack.

February 11
In 1904, the defensive fleet of the human and Mlosh from earth rendezvous at the Plutonian defensive perimeter to meet the incoming fleet from the Mlosh homeworld. They now realize that they are facing an offshoot of the Mlosh, possibly bred for battle. The children of the earth brace for a hard fight.

February 12
In 1904, Q'B'Ton'ra's fleet enter's the Oort cloud at the edge of earth's solar system, where they are engaged by the Congress of Nations' defensive force. Admiral Hamid gives Q'B'Ton'ra a choice - Leave our solar system alive, or leave your spirit here. Q'B'Ton'ra's response is to order his vessels to fire on Hamid's ship, and the battle begins.

February 13
In 1904, Q'B'Ton'ra is driven from the earth's solar system by a defensive force he clearly did not expect to be more advanced than his own. The Congress of Nations embassy ship manages to break through the back of his line and reach the sanctuary of Pluto. Although the earth's people are cheered by the return of the ship, they are saddened at the loss of Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk, and he is memorialized with full honors.

February 15
In 1904, the invasion fleet of Q'B'Ton'ra, at least the remains of it, take up position just outside the earth system's Oort cloud. The conquerors of the Mlosh homeworld offer a trade of their prisoners held back on the Mlosh homeworld for the Q'Bar, as he calls his people, held on earth. Delighted that their people are still alive, the Congress of Nations agrees to the prisoner transfer.

February 16
In 1904, a Q'Bar ship meets a prison ship from the Congress of Nations carrying the Q'Bar held prisoner by the C.N. After a tense docking, the Mlosh and humans aboard the Q'Bar ship head onto the C.N. ship while the Q'Bar rejoin their people. No apparently hostile moves are made by either side, and the exchange concludes peacefully.

February 18
In 1904, the Congress of Nations tells Q'B'Ton'ra that his fleet will either leave the Oort cloud and return to the Mlosh homeworld, or it will be destroyed. The Q'Bar leader acquiesces, but warns the C.N., 'You will not face as simple a battle should you choose to fight me in my home system; never return to my world.'

February 21
In 1904, long-range surveillance shows the Q'Bar fleet on its way back to the Mlosh homeworld. Many Mlosh begin pushing the Congress of Nations to invade the homeworld; they want to reclaim their heritage from its usurpers. There are humans in the solar system more than willing to go along with them, including Admiral Hamid, supreme commander of the Congress of Nations defensive fleet. Debate begins in the C.N. chambers.

February 22
In 1799, the Spanish province of Florida throws in its lot with the Mlosh, Iroquois, French and English possessions in North America merging to form the North American Confederation. With Florida joining them, the N.A.C. stretches across the entire eastern coast of the continent.

February 23
In 1825, Great Britain grants independence to the South African Confederation, a loose confederation of small nations in southern Africa. Held together by Mlosh diplomacy for twenty years, it eventually splintered into a dozen tiny countries, each with a remarkably small amount of influence in the world until diamond mining began in earnest in 1851.

February 24
In 1904, a full session of the Congress of Nations in Cairo, Egypt meets to debate the Q'Bar problem. The Mlosh, blamed by many for the quakes of the 90's and now for the creation of a powerful enemy, are vilified by Delegate Abdul Raizuli of Barbary. 'For almost 2 centuries, we have lived alongside them as brothers,' Raizuli thundered, 'and all they have brought to us is grief.' In his rage, Delegate Raizuli proposed the infamous Congressional Action 432 and opened debate on its scope.

February 26
In 1866, composer P'Tag'Lo was born in Boston, North American Confederation. His fusion of Mlosh, Native American, African, Spanish and English music became known as Jazz, and this new form of music set the world on fire. Jazz has become the new folk music for virtually all people across the solar system.

February 27
In 1769, He'Que'Rana becomes the first Mlosh to speak in Parliament as a full member of the House of Lords. He had been among the first group of Mlosh that King George had ennobled, and enjoyed his membership in the peerage, although other lords often refused to be seen with him. Indeed, half of the House of Lords left the chamber when he stood to speak.

March 4
In 1805, the Italian city-states and regions are united under a single ruler for the first time since Rome fell when Giuseppe Corlesconi negotiates the loyalty of all of the disparate noblemen to himself in the Treaty of Sardinia. He places his capitol in Rome, and the newly united country is named the New Republic of Rome. The N.R.R. is one of the first European nations to join the Congress of Nations in the 1860's.

March 7
In 1794,, Robert Deautrive and Y'Li'Koma produce the first popular vid, short for video play, which merged the human dramatic form with Mlosh technology to produce an entirely new art form. Their vid, Sept Jour d'Hiver (7 Days of Winter), about a woman's goodbye to her dying father, is still regarded as one of the greatest pieces of theater ever produced in France.

March 17
In 1901, Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh begins a tour of Ireland. The artist had been saved from a severe depression by a Mlosh doctor, and had created many paintings that held a Christian theme of salvation, which he thought went well with the legend of St. Patrick and Ireland.

March 18
In 1871, Mlosh negotiators were able to broker a truce between Parisian Communists and President Adolphe Thiers of France. The Communards had chafed at the rule of the conservatives, and wanted to take control of the government by force. Irish Mlosh negotiatators were able to keep the situation from spilling over into a full-scale civil war.

March 24
In 1882, poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow of the North American Confederation dies in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His Song of M'ch'Ch'mai, about the first Mlosh explorers of the continent, is still hailed today as one of the greatest of the 19th century's writings.

March 26
In 1793, royalists in Vendee, France rise up against the democratic revolutionaries who have taken control of the country. Mlosh negotiators sent in are slaughtered, and the revolution bombs Vendee into submission shortly afterwards.

March 29
In 1848, Niagara Falls stops flowing temporarily as Mlosh contractor Kent'O'Lihay builds the famous Niagara Dam in order to capture hydroelectric power from the rushing river. The falls and the artistic dam are one of the many wonders tourists flock to see in the North American Confederation.

August 1
In 1891, the Executive Committee of the Congress of Nations announces that vulcanologists of Bandai have uncovered a side effect of the Mlosh weather control technology that has been used to suppress earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. The crust of the earth has become weakened, and unless measures are taken, within 10 years, there will be too many earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to stop.

August 2
In 1801, representatives of the British, French and Spanish colonies, the Iroquois, and the Mlosh meet to adopt the Articles of Confederation. While the European powers have little choice but to watch, their North American colonies are joined with the native and alien peoples in a strong, new nation.

August 3
In 1891, the Congress of Nations authorizes an expedition to the asteroid belt to gather material to strengthen the earth's crust. The wealth of all the nations on earth is bent towards this endeavor; ships are built or modified to fly in intrastellar space as quickly as possible.

August 13
In 1892, the ships commanded by the Bandai school reached the asteroid belt and began harvesting as much rock as they could. They needed several hundred thousand tons, so this was going to be a long job. Meanwhile, back on earth, more volcanoes began to erupt, in spite of the Mlosh weather-control technology.

August 15
In 1892, with hundreds of thousands of tons of rock in tow, the Bandai vulcanologists returned to an earth that was being wracked by eruptions and quakes. With all speed, the Mlosh and human scientists began rebuilding the earth's mantle with the rock they had carried from the asteroid belt. The world watched in tense anticipation.

October 2
In 1869, future Indian First Minister and First Chancellor of the Congress of Nations Mohandas Gandhi was born in Porbandar, Kathiawad. Gandhi was known for his progressive policies and confident first contact with seven other alien cultures during his tenure as First Chancellor in the 1930's.

October 4
In 1748, architect Nilson Bors was born in Oslo, Norway. Bors has often been cited as the 19th century's most brilliant builder, blending Mlosh and human forms into a new synthesis of design. His last project, completed in his 116th year, was the headquarters of the Congress of Nations in Cairo, Egypt.

October 6
In 1836, Yusuf bin Radim premiered his opera Caught Between Worlds at the Paris Opera Theater. Starring the French tenor Jean-Claude Duprez and Mlosh soprano Kerli'pent, it spoke of a love between a human man and a Mlosh woman, and scandalized society by popularizing 'the love that dare not speak its name'.

October 8
In 1822, weather-control technology that the Mlosh have adapted to earth prevents a volcanic eruption at Galunggung in Indonesia. The achievement makes Mlosh welcome everywhere in the world that has dangerous weather.

October 9
In 1811, General Ned Ludd provoked his followers into a riot at a factory in Manchester, England, in protest of the new Mlosh technologies that were being produced. The Luddites felt that the knowledge the Mlosh were bringing to humanity was unnatural and should be suppressed, and they were willing to take drastic steps to do so.

October 10
In 1846, Neptune's moon Triton is settled by British colonizer William Lassell. The colony was notable for its lack of Mlosh members; some have speculated that Lassell had sympathies for the various anti-Mlosh movements in the United Kingdom, and excluded the aliens from his society for that purpose.

November 5
In 1875, Susan Anthony of Massachusetts is elected First Chancellor of the North American Confederation. During her term in office, she took great steps to work with European countries toward the eradication of racial terrorists such as the Human League. Since she took office shortly after the nuclear destruction of the Mlosh city of Qu'Mar, she felt she was called upon to help halt this blight upon the earth.

November 6
In 1900, during the centennial celebrations for the North American Confederation, First Chancellor Himmahtooyahlatkekt announces that contact has been made with the Mlosh homeworld, and a Congress of Nations expedition has been launched towards it. Even with faster-than-light travel, the expedition will be gone for several years; the world breathlessly awaits what they will report back.

November 7
In 1872, the Mary Celeste, a cargo airboat with 10 crewmen, set sail from New York City to Genoa, Italy. It was carrying several tons of alcoholic beverages for Italian importers, and the crew reported no difficulties during launch and the first few hours of travel. Ten days later, the ship was found floating under auto-pilot off the coast of the Azores; the crew had disappeared, and all the cargo was intact. Investigators of the incident receive a tip from a physicist at New York University that the earth was entering an interdimensional rift; he believed the rift was caused by Mlosh technology, but this part of the investigation was covered up. The mystery has never been officially solved.

November 8
In 1656, British astronomer Sir Edmund Halley was born in London. He made many important discoveries during his life, including naming a comet, but his greatest achievement came late in life when he was able to verify the Mlosh's claims to come from outer space, and to use their equipment to observe and visit space himself.

November 15
In 1751, Anglican minister/racist demagogue William Cowper was born in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. Cowper was haunted throughout his life by mental illness that he refused medical treatment for, believing Mlosh techniques to be sinful. He founded the anti-Mlosh communities in Olney and Chelsea Downs.

November 17
In 1875, the North American Theosophical Society was founded in New York City, the capitol of the North American Confederation. Helena Blavatsky, a mystic from Russia, claimed to have psychic knowledge of the Mlosh homeworld, delivered to her by extra-dimensional beings on alternate planes of existence. Although the scientific community pronounced the woman a charlatan, many people, Mlosh and human, flocked to hear her speak; she did put on a good show, after all.

December 1
In 1890, the French-British Channel city was founded. Atlan as it was known, was the brainchild of French architect Simone L'Tig'gha, a Mlosh genius who had embraced both sides of the English Channel and drew citizens from both countries to his vision. Tragically, Atlan was destroyed in the seismic disasters of the early 90's, and virtually all of its population was lost beneath the waves.

December 11
In 1718, King Charles XII of Sweden was shot in the head by a Norwegian assassin. Although he survived, his mental capacity afterwards was that of a child, and his sister, Ulrika Eleanora, ruled in his place. In 1725, after hearing of the medical miracles that the Mlosh were capable of, she contacted the Mlosh colony ship in Germany and asked for a physician to come to her court. He cured Charles, and Ulrika turned the crown back over to him. The grateful king declared that any Mlosh who desired Swedish citizenship was welcome within his borders.

April 7
In 1915, Captain Smith of the Harlequin makes landfall on the Q'Barian planet amid chaos. His shuttle had been fired upon several times during the landing, and only his skill as a pilot had saved his small landing party. When they saw the riots taking place on the streets of the Q'Barian cities, the small group urged Captain Smith to turn back, but he insisted that they offer aid to whoever was responsible for the distress signal. Once on land, they began searching for the source of the signal.

April 10
In 1915, Ch'Kel'Mlar, Chief Doctor of the hospital being evacuated by the Harlequin, is taken along with Captain Smith up to the ship, with the last of the Q'Barian patients. Although Captain Smith would like to stay behind to restore some sense of order to the Q'Barian world, Ch'Kel'Mlar tells him it is useless, and continues his tale of the cause of all this chaos.

April 9
In 1821, French author Charles-Pierre Baudelaire is born in Paris, France. He spent most of his life in the French colony on Titan, penning such works as Stars of Evil, Painter of Modern Life and Stellar Art. For a brief period, he wrote for the Mlosh-owned French vid company Les Etoilles, but artistic differences forced him to resign.

February 6
In 1904, in a desperate escape attempt, the Congress of Nations crew recapture their ship and beat a hasty retreat from the Mlosh system. In their rush to escape, they leave behind Ambassador Li'Kanto'Mk, who tells them to go on without him when he is taken captive by Q'B'Ton'ra.

March 8
In 1852, Denmark and Spain joined the Congress of Nations. The last two holdouts in Europe, they paved the way for the other isolationist countries of the earth to finally give in and begin joining the C.N.
