In 1951, on this day the Head of the Nazi Space Flight Programme in Peenemünde Herr Direcktor Wernher von Braun determined that oxygen shortage was the probable cause of hallucinations in which his astronauts had experienced recurrent visions of Judeo-Christian imagery during their maiden voyage to the Moon.
Iron NightmareMission Commander Hans-Ulrich Rude had experienced a vision of a golden ram passing through the hull of the spacecraft. A Stuka dive-bomber flying ace and card carrying member of the Nazi party, he was the most highly decorated German serviceman of the recent war, one of only twenty-seven military men to be awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, and the only one to be awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds
And so plans for the crew to accompany the Fuehrer on a celebration tour of Germany had been scrapped because the astronauts were ideologically compromised. In any case Second in Command Erwin Hentschel had already escaped to neutral America where he was sharing his new vision of the wonder of God's creation. It was an Iron Nightmare threatening to undermine the thousand year future of the Third Reich.

~ So the USA stayed out of the war and the Germans won? Eventully Hitler would have died off and Germany would have become more moderate.
As for seeing things due to lack of Oxygen? Sounds like something the U.S. government would come up with.

In 1953, at the Nuremberg Trials: the defense team for Adolf Hitler rebutted the charges of "planning, initiating and waging wars of aggression and other crimes against peace" by arguing that the Nazi invasion of Eastern Europe was a merely pretext for conducting the Final Solution.

But an even more grisly truth emerged. Despite his stated objective of gaining Lebensraum for the Volk (living space for the German People), it soon became apparent that the whole Nazi programme was a vehicle for genocide, explaining the Fuhrer's callous indifference to military setbacks across the Eastern front. Because by 1943, four in five of the Jewish People who would perish in the Holocaust had already died.

~ There has been a lot of fiction about a trial of Hitler, such as "The Trial of Adolf Hitler" -- I read it, but found the arguments unconvincing.
Most likely he would have been interrogated until the historians were satisfied, then given a quick trial over a single incident in which a clear paper trail existed, and quickly hanged. But I don't think his interrogation would have been as interesting as Goering's, or as Himmler's would have been. He was too crazy.
~ What would be a punishment for Hitler brought on by Germany? Execution or simply exile? He'd write some crazy memoirs if the latter.

In 1969, on this day NASA confirmed that the identity of the deceased Soviet Cosmonaut discovered at Tranquility Base was none other than Yuri Gagarin who had been reported dead by the Pravda Newspaper as a result of a fatal training accident at the Star City some eighteen months before.

NASA makes a Grisly DiscoveryEven more surprisingly a radio playback included several warnings that the now abandoned Soviet lander was entering Nazi Airspace.
Ironically the American landing at Tranquility Base were largely a triumph of the German Rocket Scientists such as Werner Von Braun who had been based at the Peenemünde Space Port. Due to the rapid invasion of General Eisenhower's forces, they had been prevented from joining their colleagues in Antartica who relocated to the Dark Side of the Moon during the final phase of the war.

~ Ahem. There is no "dark side" of the moon, only a "far side."
The distinction is this: Due to Earth's gravitational effwect, the moon's rotation has slowed to a point at which it turns on its axis in the same amount of time it takes to orbit the earth. This means we only see one side of it. But it does rotate, so the other side gets sunlight: the moon's "day" is about 29 Earth days long, meaning that the "dark side" gets just over two weeks' worth of sunlight followed by an equal period of darkness--just as the near side does.
~ Argentina, Antarctica, Center of the Earth, the Moon... Where else could those Nazis end up?
