Todayinah Editor Editor says, what if Jesus had been rescued from the cross? Please note that the opinions expressed in this post do not necessarily reflect the views of the author(s). This story was published in the July 2012 edition of Changing the Times Magazine.

In 783 AUC, on this day radical Judean sicarii (pictured) ambush the Roman legionnaires and drag the good Rabbi Joshua away from Calvary despite his pleas that they should put up their swords in their scabbards.

The Calvary AmbushAlthough their justice had miscarried, the High Priests of the Sanhedrin dared not interfere because the sicarrii would call them traitors and cowards and then slit their throats in front of the crowd.

But instead the real resistance came from the rescue victim himself. He argued that he must do his father's bidding, but the sicarrii assured him that Joseph would never ask him to let himself be crucified. Nevertheless, even though their rash actions might have harmed all humanity, he knew that they performed them for the best of reasons and at great risk to themselves, so eternal blessings await them. That thought would comfort them during the Masada revolt, when they were all killed, along with the other defenders .. after telling the Good Rabbi to leave the country and keep preaching his word, perhaps across the sea.

Readers Comment Jared Myers commented on 2012-06-16 21:23:40 ~ Majorly intriguing, but ultimately unrealistic.

Readers Comment Richard Roper commented on 2012-06-17 10:14:47 ~ I'm sorry to say this but this is probably a Counter-Factual Counter-factual that restores the correct Time Line, with the exception that The High priest and his supporters in the Sanhedrin get their come-upannce.. I think the evidence is something like this actually happened and the Da Vinci Code is very nesr the truth. "I believe that the Good Rabbi Joshua would have given them his eternal blessings for their courage and compassion, though, before they went to Masada for the final rebellion, where they were all killed in real life. Before that final battle, they might well have warned him to leave them and keep preaching his wise words, perhaps across the sea, in that faraway land that lies beyond even the British Isles." There is consternation by another group of plotters . Pontius Pilate doesn't know what he is going to do. The members of the jewish establishment who oppose the High Priest and his party are pleased, but their plot is frustrated. I believe the evidence is in Joshephus and canbe read between the lines in the Gospels. You couldn't have a Doctor of the Law crucified, the uprising Pilate feared would follow but in any case was in on the plot via his wife and because he didn't like the High Priest's party. Palms were crossed with silver, he was taken down from the cross alive, Pilate was in on it. They then took him to a tomb of a jewish member of the establishment who had set it up, but the "body" was whissked off to a house to be treated. he would have to be got out of Palestine, and the Roman Empire, from Caesaraea Phillipi the sea routes go west along the mediterranean then up the West Coast of Europe to Britannia as hte Romans called it. From Alexandria, going up an arm of the NIle the sea routes go east to India. My money is on going west because of the stories of Mary of Magdela, which means you end up in Avalon, just off the major trading route by sea into Britannia.

Readers Comment Eric Oppen commented on 2012-06-17 17:54:51 ~ "Welease Joshua!"

Readers Comment Jeff Provine commented on 2012-06-18 16:40:38 ~ Sicarrii slaughtering Roman soldiers would cause an uproar on both sides. Might move the Roman destruction of Judaea earlier.

Readers Comment Jackie Rose commented on 2012-06-18 16:48:55 ~ But like all guerrillas, the Sicarii would have had a hiding place and taken Joshua there. At any rate I think that they would have surprised and outnumbered the Romans, thus preventing much slaughter from taking place. In that case, the Romans might well have preferred to overlook the whole thing, rather than inciting a full-scale revolt over a relatively minor incident.

Readers Comment Andrew Beane commented on 2012-06-19 03:45:14 ~ interesting but setting my blasphemy alarm off lol

Readers Comment Jackie Rose commented on 2012-06-22 12:59:36 ~ I've wondered about one thing...is "Calvary Ambush" a pun on "Cavalry Ambush"? If so, it's a very good one. :)

Readers Comment Todayinah Ed. commented on 2013-04-07 10:45:46 ~ Google+ reader Warren Lissel comments - "Joseph would never.." Made me giggle. Thanks.
